A French lithograph from 1920, printed in two colors, this poster promotes the Emprunt de la Paix, or Peace Loan, a government bond drive in the years after World War I. Its subjects are families and farmers, and the design appeals to ordinary people to help pay for rebuilding the country. The bonds were sold through Crédit Lyonnais, one of France's largest banks, and the record credits the design to the artist Chavannaz. Posters like this one were a common tool for turning wartime patriotism into peacetime investment.
