This color lithograph by Abel Faivre pairs a plowing scene with rows of crosses, the grave markers of the battlefields. It was issued for the 1920 National Loan, a French government bond drive to fund postwar reconstruction, and the Crédit Lyonnais bank was among the institutions that sold the bonds. The poster's title, *Terre de France* ("French Soil"), makes the appeal explicit: investing in the loan meant helping to bring cultivation back to land that the war had scarred. Faivre was a well-known caricaturist and poster artist, and the work was printed by Devambez in Paris.
