Yank's Station stood in the Lake Tahoe valley of El Dorado County, a roadside stop where travelers bound for the Sierra could rest and change horses. The Library holds only one half of a stereographic pair, a Gems of California Scenery view numbered 642 and dated to about 1866, when the lake country was drawing more visitors from Placerville. Albumen prints like this one were mounted for viewing through a stereoscope, which gave the flat scene a sense of depth. The caption data is recorded as unverified, so details about the station itself should be read with that in mind.
