A lake and bridge in Central Park, captured on a stereo card dated around 1907, give this view a quiet, pastoral feel in the middle of Manhattan. The card was issued by the Standard Scenic Company as number 2979 in a series of scenic views meant to be seen through a stereoscope at home. Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux began designing the park in the 1850s to give city residents a landscape of winding paths and water, and stereographs like this helped carry that scene into parlors across the country. The caption details on this record are unverified, so the exact bridge and vantage point are worth confirming against other sources.
