Dinham Bridge crosses the River Teme at Ludlow, the market town in Shropshire that is known for its medieval castle and well-preserved old streets. This photochrom print was issued by the Detroit Publishing Company, which held the American rights to the Swiss photochrom process, a method that combined photographs with hand-applied color on stone plates. The print comes from the company's 1905 catalog J of English views, though the photograph itself was likely taken in the 1890s. Its soft, saturated colors show how the process was used to sell travel images of Britain to American buyers.
