Calvin Coolidge, who was president in February 1929, appears here receiving or posing with members of the Order of DeMolay, the fraternal youth organization for young men founded in Kansas City in 1919. The glass negative is one of thousands made by the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that photographed public figures and official events in the 1920s and 1930s. The record's title comes from data written on the negative or its sleeve and has not been independently verified, so the exact occasion is best treated as provisional. Like many glass plates of its era, the negative shows streaks and surface blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its emulsion.
