The title ties this glass negative to Calvin Coolidge's funeral, but the record's date of July 9, 1924, does not match that event. Coolidge, president from 1923 to 1929, died in January 1933 in Northampton, Massachusetts, and was buried in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio active in the early twentieth century, documented many public occasions, so the plate records a ceremony of some public interest. Streaks and surface blemishes on the glass, a result of aging coatings, are visible here, and the title came from unverified information on the negative sleeve, so the attribution should be treated as provisional.
