Calvin Coolidge, who became president in August 1923 after Warren G. Harding's death, is the central figure in this 1924 glass negative of a bill-signing. The National Photo Company's title names a "Cameron bill," but that attribution is unverified, so the legislation itself remains uncertain. The studio, a Washington, D.C. firm that documented government officials and public events, made the plate, and it entered the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Streaks and blemishes visible on the glass are typical of deterioration in the original coatings.
