Morecambe, a Lancashire seaside resort on the shore of Morecambe Bay, is the setting for this view of a parade beside a revolving tower. The color comes from the photochrom process, a Swiss method of multi-stone color printing that the Detroit Publishing Company later sold in the United States. Its 1905 catalog listed this view as number 11151 in a series of English scenes, though the photograph itself dates from about the 1890s. Such pairings of public processions and novel amusements were typical of late Victorian resorts, which were built to draw holidaymakers.
