The date, April 25, 1923, is what sets this print apart: it places the picture in the early weeks of the big-league season. The caption card says only "Baseball parks," and the record does not name the stadium, so the image is best read as a general view of a ballpark during the decade when baseball was America's dominant sport. It comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of news photographs assembled by Bain's agency for newspaper use, and pictures like this offer a useful glimpse of how 1920s ballparks looked to the crowds who filled them.
