The Central Park theater stood on Roosevelt Road near Central Park in Chicago, and this 1928 ink drawing records its design during the years when movie houses were becoming a major part of city life. Drawings like this were working documents for builders and contractors, so they show plans and details rather than how the finished building looked. Chicago saw a wave of large theaters in the 1920s, and the Library of Congress preserves this sheet among its architectural and engineering drawings. The street takes its name from Theodore Roosevelt, which connects the drawing to this board.
