The drawing shows the State-Congress theater on South State Street near East Congress Street in Chicago, a stretch of the Loop that in the 1920s was packed with vaudeville houses, movie palaces and burlesque theaters. Its Folly theater name points to the burlesque shows that the building housed at the time. Because the record lists it among Chicago theaters of the 1920s, the sheet reads as a working architectural document rather than a finished rendering. Its pen-and-ink lines record the plan and construction details that let builders and inspectors understand how the building was laid out.
