The Blackstone stood at Seventh Street and Michigan Avenue, on one of Chicago's busiest downtown boulevards, so its location is as much a part of the record as the building itself. This ink drawing dates to 1934 and belongs to the Library of Congress's architecture, engineering and design holdings. Its catalog subjects place it among the many theaters and motion picture houses Chicago built and altered during the 1930s. Architectural drawings like this one show how the building was laid out and planned, rather than how it looked to the crowds who filled its seats.
