Fifth Avenue in New York was the setting for the city's famous Easter Parade, and this 1911 glass negative records that spring tradition. For generations, churchgoers and strollers filled the avenue on Easter Sunday in new hats, gloves and spring finery, turning the sidewalks into a public display of fashion. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a news photography service that sent cameramen into the city's streets in the early 1900s. Its title comes from caption data recorded at the time and has not been independently verified, so the exact details are best read in that light.
