Fifth Avenue in New York was the stage for one of the city's best-known spring rituals, the Easter Parade, when churchgoers strolled the avenue in new hats and fine clothes after Sunday services. This glass negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress, the archive of the Bain News Service, a photo agency that sold pictures of news and daily life in New York in the early 1900s. The record's date is unknown and its title comes from caption cards that the agency's own staff wrote, so the exact year and scene are not confirmed. Even so, it gives a useful view of how the city's streets and public display of fashion looked in that era.
