Fifth Avenue in New York is the setting for this glass negative, which the Bain News Service dated April 19, 1908, a week after Easter that year. The title "Easter Parade" comes from caption data the agency supplied and has not been independently verified. Still, the subject fits a long New York tradition: on Easter Sunday, people dressed in new spring clothes and hats strolled Fifth Avenue, turning the street into a showcase of fashion. Bain's photographers recorded many such street scenes, making the collection a useful view of how the city dressed and moved in the early 1900s.
