Fifth Avenue in New York was the stage for the city's Easter Parade in 1911, when churchgoers strolled the boulevard in new spring clothes after Sunday services. Press photographers of the period, including the George Grantham Bain News Service, recorded the custom for newspapers eager for images of city life. Titles in this collection were taken from caption cards and have not been independently verified, so the particulars of this scene are best read with that caveat in mind. The glass negative preserves fashion and public leisure in the years before World War I.
