Fifth Avenue in New York was the setting for the city's Easter parade, and this 1911 glass negative from the Bain News Service shows that tradition at street level. On Easter Sunday, churchgoers and strollers filled the avenue after morning services, displaying new spring clothing, hats and gloves in a custom of promenading that drew crowds for decades. George Grantham Bain ran a news picture agency that sold photographs to newspapers, so pictures like this were made to be published quickly. The title comes from data recorded by the agency and is not independently verified, so the exact location and subjects are worth checking against other sources.
