Few views of the Tyrol show the Brenner Railway as plainly as this one at Gossensass, a village in the Eisack valley on the line that climbs toward the Brenner Pass. The railway opened in 1867 as a major north-south route across the Alps, and it brought steady traffic through villages like this one. The color comes from the photochrom process, which printed a photograph in several colors from multiple lithographic stones. The Detroit Publishing Company issued this print as part of its catalog of Austro-Hungarian views, dated 1905.
