Argos, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Greece, is the subject of this stereograph, which the caption describes as a view of homes that have stood there "since earliest times." The card was issued by Underwood & Underwood, a firm that sold stereo views to households across the United States in the early twentieth century, so the picture was meant to be looked at through a viewer that fused two slightly offset images into a single three-dimensional scene. Its c1907 date places it in the years when such cards were a popular way for American viewers to see distant places like the Peloponnese.
