Labeled as a typical home in Demandra, a village in Messinia in the southwestern Peloponnese, this stereograph shows an ordinary domestic setting rather than a famous landmark. Underwood & Underwood, and later the Keystone View Company, produced cards like this in large numbers for parlor stereoscopes, giving armchair travelers a three-dimensional look at distant places.
