Mortimer M. Theise was a theatrical producer whose name sits at the head of this 1910 color lithograph, and the poster's real subject is the show it advertised, "Bonita," with its emphasis on fashionable women's dress. The Otis Lithograph Company of Cleveland and New York printed it, as the record's catalog number 14130 shows. Posters like this were pasted on streets and in theater lobbies to draw audiences, and their bold color and large display lettering were meant to be read at a distance. Its interest today lies partly in how it packages costume and stage glamour as a selling point for the production.
