W. H. Windom, billed on this 1896 poster as "the famous alto," was a singer who also wrote popular songs, including "The Fatal Wedding." Primrose & West's Big Minstrels was one of the best-known traveling minstrel companies of its day, touring American towns with singers, comedians and musicians in a format built on ensemble numbers and stage banter. The color lithograph was produced by the Strobridge Lithographing Company, whose Cincinnati and New York shops turned out many theatrical posters of the period. The missing upper right corner is typical wear for a poster of this age.
