Lettering on the paddlewheel of this side-wheeler, the *Norwich*, proclaims it the "oldest steamboat in the world, built 1836," a boast its owners clearly wanted visitors to see. The picture was taken in 1909 on the Hudson River during the Hudson-Fulton Celebration, which marked the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage and the 100th anniversary of Robert Fulton's steamboat *Clermont*. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for its color-tinted views of American scenery and travel, made the glass negative, and the naval parade subject heading suggests the vessel took part in the river's festivities.
