A steamer tied up at the wharf at Weirs anchors this view of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. By the late 1800s, Weirs drew summer visitors who arrived by rail and continued across the water on lake steamers that carried passengers between hotels and landings. The canoes near the pier hint at the boating leisure that drew people there. Made by the Detroit Publishing Company in the years before 1910, this glass negative records a resort scene from a time when lake travel was central to vacationing in the region.
