Kauffer's poster sells the Underground as a way to reach leisure rather than just a way to get to work, urging Londoners to spend the bright hours between 6 and 12 out in the city. Edward McKnight Kauffer, an American-born designer who produced many posters for London's transport companies in the late 1920s and 1930s, favored flat color and simplified forms over the painted scenery of earlier travel advertising. This example was printed as a chromolithograph by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, a London firm known for color printing, and it shows how transit advertising of the period tried to make the trip itself feel like part of the pleasure.
