Urging Londoners to shop during the quiet hours between 10 and 4, this 1930 poster presents the Underground as the easy way to reach the stores. Edward McKnight Kauffer, an American-born designer who did much of his best work in London, made a long run of posters for the city's underground railway in the late 1920s and 1930s. This example was chromolithographed by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, and its flat, bold shapes and limited palette show the modernist style he brought to transit advertising.
