The eldest son of Theodore Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt Jr., is shown clasping hands with President Calvin Coolidge on September 26, 1924. Coolidge had taken office after Warren Harding's death in 1923 and was campaigning for a term of his own that fall. Roosevelt Jr., a decorated veteran of World War I, was a prominent Republican of the period, and his presence at the White House gave the moment a family and political significance. The print comes from the National Photo Company Collection at the Library of Congress, where it was filed in an album documenting Coolidge's first administration.
