Two of President Theodore Roosevelt's sons, Theodore Jr. and Kermit, appear together in this undated glass negative from the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency whose pictures reached newspapers across the country. The brothers were born about two years apart, and as young men both were part of their father's public life and adventures. Kermit later joined the 1913-1914 expedition down the River of Doubt in Brazil, and Theodore Jr. went on to serve in World War I and in later government posts. The record gives no date, so the sitting is best placed in the Roosevelt years, though the exact occasion is unknown.
