Theodore Roosevelt Jr., eldest son of the twenty-sixth president, is the subject here, shown with family members whose names the record does not confirm. The Bain News Service, a New York press photo agency, produced glass negatives like this to supply newspapers with news images in the early 1900s and 1910s. Roosevelt Jr. went on to serve in World War I, govern Puerto Rico and the Philippines, and die in Normandy in 1944, where he led troops ashore at Utah Beach and was later awarded the Medal of Honor.
