Two of Theodore Roosevelt's sons, Theodore Jr. and Kermit, appear in this glass negative, though the title is unverified and no date is recorded. The plate comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the work of a New York news photo agency that Bain founded around 1899 to supply pictures of public figures to newspapers. Both brothers became prominent in their own right: Theodore Jr. later served as governor of Puerto Rico, and Kermit joined his father on the 1909 African expedition. Glass negatives like this one were the standard working format of press photographers of the era.
