This glass negative is catalogued under the name Theodore Roosevelt Jr., eldest son of President Theodore Roosevelt, though the record gives no date and the identification comes from caption data the Bain News Service supplied and that has not been verified. Roosevelt Jr. later served as assistant secretary of the Navy, governor of Puerto Rico, and governor-general of the Philippines, and he landed with the 4th Infantry Division on D-Day. The Bain collection, a body of news photographs made mostly from the 1900s through the 1920s, shows how newspapers recorded prominent public figures and their families during that period.
