Theodore Roosevelt Jr., eldest son of the president, is pictured here with his family, though the record gives no date and its title is unverified, so the occasion itself is unknown. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, whose photographers worked in New York in the early 1900s and produced portraits and news pictures of public figures for newspapers. Roosevelt Jr. later governed Puerto Rico and served as governor-general of the Philippines, roles that gave him a public career of his own beyond his father's shadow.
