Roberts's lithograph shows the minarets and the grand entrance of a Metwaleys building in Cairo, a detail that sets it apart from the broader street and monument views on this board. The Metwaleys were a Shi'a community in Cairo, and Roberts drew this scene during his 1838-1839 journey through Egypt. Louis Haghe transferred the drawing to stone for the color lithograph, which was published in the three-volume *Egypt & Nubia* (London: F.G. Moon, 1846-1849). The plate is useful for its record of Cairo's architecture as it appeared just before extensive changes to the city's historic fabric.
