Madame Yucca, billed as the female Hercules and the strongest woman on Earth, is the star of this chromolithograph, a poster printed around 1898 for the Adam Forepaugh and Sells Brothers circus. The two rival shows had merged by then, and the poster promotes the combined "America's greatest shows" as a single touring attraction. Strongman acts drew large crowds in the 1890s, when a woman performing feats of strength was a striking novelty on the midway and in the big top. The poster was produced by the Courier Lithographing Company of Buffalo, New York, one of several firms that turned out bold color posters for traveling shows of the period.
