Thirteen riders in varied costumes, each on horseback, set this lithograph apart from the many circus posters that featured animals or a star clown, since the sheet is built around the equestrian troupe itself. The title's promise of "representative riders of every class and country" reflects a common late-nineteenth-century show-bill tactic, using a parade of performers to suggest the whole world under one tent. The Adam Forepaugh & Sells Brothers show was a merger of two traveling circuses, and the Courier Litho. Co. of Buffalo was one of several firms that printed such posters in bulk for American tours. The riders' differing dress is worth noticing, as it was used to signal different nations and styles of horsemanship to crowds who could not read the fine print.
