This Bain News Service glass negative shows Curt Coleman of the New York American League club at Hilltop Park, the ballpark in Washington Heights where the team played from 1903 through 1912. The team was still widely called the Highlanders then, and the Yankees nickname came into use in 1913, the year the club moved to the Polo Grounds. The record dates the picture to 1912 on research by the Society for American Baseball Research, while the caption card reads 1913, so the exact year is worth noting. Bain's agency supplied newspapers with pictures like this one, which makes the collection a useful record of early New York ballplayers.
