Jeff Tesreau was a right-handed pitcher for the New York Giants, and this glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection shows him in uniform as a player of the National League club. Tesreau pitched for the Giants from 1912 into the early 1920s, and he earned a reputation as a durable starter during the years when New York was a dominant force in the league. The Bain News Service, a Manhattan photo agency, supplied pictures like this one to newspapers, so the negative offers a glimpse of how sports figures were photographed for mass reading audiences in the early twentieth century.
