Two a day" was the twice-daily performance schedule that gave vaudeville its working rhythm, and this poster advertises a revue built on that format, credited to Gene Stone and Jack Robinson and presented under the Federal theater Project in California in 1938. The Federal theater Project was a New Deal program within the Works Progress Administration that gave unemployed actors, writers and stagehands work during the Depression, staging plays, circuses and variety shows for local audiences. Its posters were often made by silkscreen, an inexpensive method that favored bold, flat areas of color, and that economy shows in this design. By the late 1930s vaudeville was fading as film and radio drew audiences away, so the show looks back on a form many of its performers had known at its height.
