A 1938 silkscreen poster for Elmer Rice's play *Judgment Day* stands out for its California connection, since the record ties it to theatrical productions in the state. Rice, a playwright known for works that examined social and political pressures, wrote the play in 1934. The Federal theater Project, a Works Progress Administration program that put unemployed theater workers back on stage during the Depression, promoted its productions with posters like this one. The silkscreen color process gave these designs bold, flat shapes that were cheap to print in quantity.
