Few things on the WPA boards were made to promote a single Broadway-style drama, and this silkscreen advertises Elmer Rice's *Counsellor at Law*, a play about a busy Manhattan lawyer and the immigrant clients who crowd his office. Rice wrote it in 1931, and it was a hit on Broadway. Its 1938 revival under the Federal theater Project shows how the government's theater program used low-cost, bold color prints to fill local halls, and the record ties the production to California, where the project staged many shows during the Depression.
