The Aber Falls, a cascade in the Aber valley of north Wales near Abergwyngregyn, was a popular stop for Victorian travelers touring the region's scenery. This photochrom print records the falls and the surrounding landscape in the color-tinted process developed in Switzerland in the 1880s and later licensed to the Detroit Publishing Company for American distribution. The print's date falls in the 1890s, when such views were sold widely as souvenirs and as color pictures of distant places. The image shows how the process rendered rock, water, and foliage in soft, layered hues.
