Its slogan, "Nothing stops these men, let nothing stop you," is a direct appeal to American workers in 1918, when the Emergency Fleet Corporation, created under the U.S. Shipping Board in 1917, was racing to build merchant ships for the Atlantic supply lines. The lithograph was issued from the corporation's Publications Section in Philadelphia and printed by the John H. Eggers Co. of New York, which is why it sits on this New York City board. The subject headings tie it to the wider war effort, pairing the figure of the soldier with the bayonet and the ideal of war work at home. Its artist, H. Giles, signed the design only with that initial and surname.
