Audubon Place is a residential street in the Uptown section of New Orleans, set near Audubon Park and lined with substantial houses behind lawns and tall shade trees. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made large-format views of American cities and scenic places for tourism and railroad promotion, produced this glass negative around 1910. The 8 by 10 inch format gave the company's photographers fine detail for reproduction. The quiet, tree-shaded scene reflects how prosperous New Orleans families had built homes uptown in the early twentieth century.
