Few things say "Deep South" quite like a tall palm standing over a New Orleans park, and this 8 x 10 inch glass negative from about 1910 captures that scene in Audubon Park. The park occupies land on the Uptown riverfront that was once part of the grounds used for regional expositions, and its wide lawns and oaks made it a popular place for strolling and outings. The Detroit Publishing Company produced many such views of American cities and landscapes for travel promotion, so this image also reflects how the South was presented to visitors in the early twentieth century.
