Tamarack Point on Raquette Lake, where the Antlers resort stood, places this view at one of the central summer destinations of the central Adirondacks. In the years around 1900, wealthy visitors from New York and other cities reached the lake by rail and steamboat to stay at hotels and camps along its shore. The Detroit Publishing Company made views like this one to promote such travel, and the large 8 x 10 inch glass negative captures the lake's wooded shoreline in the fine detail that made these scenes popular with resort guests and rail passengers.
