Cottages at the Antlers, a resort on Raquette Lake in New York's Adirondack Mountains, are the subject here, and the record names this one as the Spruces. Wealthy vacationers began arriving in the Adirondacks in the late 1800s, when railroads and steamboats carried them deep into the forest to fish, boat, and escape city summers. The Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed scenic and resort destinations across the country, made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative between 1900 and 1905, capturing the rustic lodging of that era.
