This stereograph shows an ordnance depot on Morris Island, the barrier island at the mouth of Charleston Harbor, in 1865. Union forces had seized much of the island in 1863 after a costly assault on Fort Wagner, and by the end of the war it served as a supply base for the Federal campaign against Charleston. The image survives as a pair of glass wet-collodion negatives, which the publisher E. & H.T. Anthony issued as a stereo card to be viewed through a stereoscope for a three-dimensional effect.
