A young Washington girl, Sally Lefevre, is pictured buying Christmas seals, and the record ties the scene to President Warren G. Harding. Christmas seals were sold each holiday season to fund tuberculosis care and education, a campaign that had spread across the country since the first seals appeared in 1907. The photograph comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington firm whose pictures documented public life in the capital in the early 1920s. Harding died in August 1923, so the image most likely dates from that year.
