A boy sits at the water's edge with a line in hand in this linocut by Walter Christmas, one of a group of children's prints made in Harlem and gathered into the Harmon Foundation records. The print dates to about 1933, when the Harmon Foundation, a New York organization, was working to bring attention to African American artists through exhibitions and promotion. Its simple, bold carved shapes show how young artists could take up printmaking in a community art setting. The print is signed in pencil by the artist.
